With around 57,000 residents, Meerbusch in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss is one of the most sought-after commuter towns in the green belt around Düsseldorf – and very much a town of gardens: detached and semi-detached houses on generous plots, the wooded villa colony of Meererbusch in Büderich, old brick farmsteads and new-build estates in Osterath, Lank-Latum, Nierst and Ilverich. We work for private households, homeowners' associations (Eigentümergemeinschaften) and property managers (Hausverwaltungen) in all eight districts: Büderich, Osterath, Lank-Latum, Strümp, Ossum-Bösinghoven, Nierst, Langst-Kierst and Ilverich.
Our yard is in the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis. Via the A46 and A1, or the A57 and A44, we reach Meerbusch in roughly 50 to 65 minutes depending on traffic. You have one named contact throughout – the owner himself – and consultation is available in English, German or Turkish, whichever suits you best.

Gardens in Meerbusch: soil, climate and local characteristics
Meerbusch lies flat on the left bank of the Rhine between Düsseldorf and Krefeld, on average only some 36 m above sea level; roughly 70% of the municipal area is farmland, woodland or water. On the lower terrace around Osterath, Strümp and Lank we find fertile soils, loamy through to loess-influenced. Close to the river – in Nierst, Langst-Kierst and Ilverich – the houses stand on alluvial loam with a high water table and the influence of Rhine flooding; in between lie sandier pockets that dry out quickly in summer.
The climate is mild and oceanic, much as in Düsseldorf: around 11 °C annual average, 750 to 800 mm of rainfall and a long growing season – and dry summers are a real possibility. Irrigation and the closeness of the groundwater are therefore the questions around which almost every garden plan in Meerbusch turns; added to that is the wind across the open farmland around Osterath and Strümp, which tugs at hedges and young trees.
- Close to the Rhine (Nierst, Langst-Kierst, Ilverich): high water table, periodic waterlogging, dyke and flood-prone plots – drainage, sub-base and planting all have to be matched to it
- Lower terrace (Osterath, Strümp, Lank-Latum): fertile loam and loess soils – water and mulch through the dry spells
- Büderich and Meererbusch: wooded villa locations with mature trees – tree care, leaf clearance and shade-tolerant planting
Tree protection and local rules in Meerbusch
Since 1 January 2020 Meerbusch has had a tree protection by-law (Baumschutzsatzung) for the first time – and unlike Düsseldorf or Cologne it works through notification rather than permission. Anyone wanting to fell a protected broadleaf tree above a certain size has to notify the town at least six weeks beforehand on the official form (Anzeigepflicht). A replacement planting or a compensation payment is compulsory; if a tree has to come down at once because of acute danger, this must be reported within three days. We check in advance whether your tree falls under the by-law and, if you wish, handle the notification for you, together with a proposal for the replacement planting.
On top of that, the nationwide ban on cutting woody plants runs from 1 March to 30 September under the Federal Nature Conservation Act (Bundesnaturschutzgesetz, § 39 BNatSchG): we schedule hard cutbacks, clearance and felling for October to February, while light shaping and maintenance cuts are possible all year round. Plots on the edge of the Ilvericher Altrheinschlinge and Latumer Bruch nature reserves we treat with particular care.
Typical projects in Meerbusch
In the Meererbusch villa colony and the upmarket parts of Büderich and Strümp, the brief is often a large landscaped garden: sweeping lawns with automatic irrigation, long formally trimmed hedges, crown care on mature trees and a driveway with presence in block paving or natural stone – usually looked after on a maintenance contract.
In the village-like districts of Osterath, Lank-Latum, Nierst and Ilverich it is more a matter of yard surfaces, privacy screens against the wind, patios and laying out brand-new gardens on new-build plots. Close to the Rhine, drainage is a regular part of the job: land drains, soakaway areas and a sub-base that still carries loads when the water table is high. For residential blocks we take on grounds maintenance, hedge trimming and, on request, the winter service, all from a single source.

Frequently Asked Questions – Meerbusch
Do I need permission to have a tree felled in Meerbusch?
Since 2020 Meerbusch has had a tree protection by-law (Baumschutzsatzung) that requires notification rather than permission: the felling of a protected broadleaf tree has to be notified on the town's official form at least six weeks in advance, and a replacement planting or compensation payment is compulsory. We check at the on-site visit whether your tree reaches the protected size, and we handle the notification.
Do you charge a call-out fee for Meerbusch?
The on-site visit is free. For the work itself we set out the journey from the Ennepe-Ruhr-Kreis transparently in the fixed-price quote; on projects lasting several days and on maintenance contracts it barely registers, because we bundle appointments in Meerbusch and Düsseldorf together.
How quickly can I get an appointment in Meerbusch?
We normally get back to you within 24 hours and can usually carry out the site visit within one to two weeks. When the work itself starts depends on its scope and the season – for spring projects and new maintenance contracts it is worth enquiring as early as the winter.
My garden near the Rhine is often wet in winter – what can you do?
In Nierst, Langst-Kierst and Ilverich the water table is high, and the Rhine's flooding adds to it. Depending on the situation, land drains, soakaway areas, an adapted sub-base beneath paving and patio, and plants that tolerate wet feet for a while are all options that help.
Is automatic irrigation worth it in Meerbusch?
With the large lawns typical here and the dry summers, usually yes: pop-up sprinklers for the lawn and drip lines for beds and hedges water evenly, save water and keep the garden green while you are away. We plan the system to suit your soil and water connection.
